Good bye (for now), NYC
Dear New York,
We met 10 years ago. And at that moment, I think I knew how special you’d be to me someday. Was it the bright lights? The skyscrapers and stunning skyline? The hustle and bustle the world renown you for?
I saw the opportunity to move cross-country 2 years ago and used my life motto to justify it - “F*ck it.” I dreamed of prancing through Central Park, rushing like the locals to the subway, taking dance classes downtown, and taking it all in. But little would I know, this would be a launchpad for me, instead of my final destination. I felt inspired by the people that I met, curious to see where else I could go if not just in New York City. I felt that no idea, dream, or destination was too far to reach. I mean if I could survive in New York, I could survive anywhere… right? *Cue Alicia Keys’ “Concrete jungles where dreams are made of.”* 🎶
Looking back at the many visits, visitors, and now a small sliver of time I was able to call NYC my home - I can’t help but say thank you for everything you’ve done for me. For bringing friends into my life that have lifted me and supported every turn this windy road has brought upon me. And for teaching me to be brave, independent, kind, and most importantly, unapologetically myself.
I’ll always remember being 18, wide-eyed, and infatuated with this city (see photo below for 18-year-old Michelle), and am grateful for the many beautiful memories we have since our first encounter. I know this is simply a see you later, as I am certain our paths will cross again someday soon. So see you later, New York 🤍
With Love,
Meesh 🦋
